How it works
Airborne time is distance divided by cruise speed. Door-to-door time is airborne time plus the ground buffer you enter for check-in, security, boarding and baggage claim.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the real flight longer than the airborne time?
Climb, descent, taxiing, routing and headwinds all add time. The ground buffer covers the airport side; airlines publish scheduled times that include these allowances.
What cruise speed should I use?
550 mph is a typical jet cruise speed. Slower aircraft and short hops cruise slower, so adjust it if you know the aircraft type.
