How it works

Area in square feet is length × width. Each tile covers (length × width) square inches ÷ 144 square feet. Tiles needed is the area divided by tile coverage, plus waste, rounded up. Boxes is tiles ÷ tiles per box, rounded up.

Frequently asked questions

Why round up twice?

You can't buy part of a tile or part of a box, and cutting tiles creates breakage — rounding up at both steps is what keeps you from a second trip.

Does this include grout spacing?

No — grout joints add a small amount of coverage. The waste allowance covers most of that difference.
