How overtime pay works

Overtime is usually paid at time-and-a-half (1.5×) for hours over 40 in a week, but the threshold and multiplier depend on your job, your state, and your employer's policy. This calculator applies the multiplier you enter to the overtime hours you enter.

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime always 1.5×?

Not always. Some jobs, contracts, and states use different rules, including double time for certain hours.
